01 / ABOUT THE PLACE
About this place
At lunchtime, the choice at Sugizen often comes down to the daily set or the beef tendon curry udon set. The set changes from day to day. One reported example included chilled soba, a tofu hamburger steak, oden, salad, rice and miso soup. Another diner described the daily set as a generous lunch. Its contents and presentation vary, so it suits anyone who likes to see what the day brings. The menu also features the “Sugizen Set.”
The beef tendon curry udon set has also made an impression: one diner remarked on the size and quantity of the beef tendon. Another ate it sukiyaki-style, dipping it in a soft-boiled egg. Some diners have reported a wait for this dish, so it may be better suited to a lunch when you have time to spare than to a rushed meal.
In the evening, the selection broadens to include sashimi, mackerel sushi and various small dishes. Visitors have enjoyed sashimi assortments featuring seasonal fish, as well as tuna sushi rolls. It could suit an evening built around choosing a few fish dishes to share. Sugizen is in the Yamakawa Building, on the west side of Teramachi Street along Nijo Street, in Kyoto’s Nakagyo Ward, on the 1 floor. Lunch and dinner are served, and reservations are accepted.
